Bulgaria has much to offer their visitors. The most popular attraction is the wonderful Monastery at Rila. The monastery was founded by Ivan Rilski (John of Rila) in the 10th century as a colony for hermits. The present building were constructed in 1816, taking thirty years to complete. The interior is adorned with many fine wall paintings and religous icons.<BR>The Dancing Bear Sanctuary at Belitsa was founded by Bridgitte Bardot to house Brown Bears rescued from their suffering and abuse. Traditionally bears were trained to "dance" from a young age using inhumane methods. They were then exhibited on the streets to entertain tourists for money. This has been illegal in Bulgaria for some years now and the foundation that runs the park has been able to rescue the bears. A sum of money was provided to recompense the owners for their lost income. No bears dance in Bulgaria any more, instead they live out their lives in a safe semi-natural environment. A visit to the Bear Sanctuary is well recommended for a day out.<BR>Melnik is a delightful village to the south of the Pirin Mountains, close to the border with Greece. Famous for its natural sandstone rock formations ("Pyramids"), it is also highly regarded for its wines. Winston Churchill is said to have kept a private stock of Melnik wine for his favoured guests. The Rozhen Monastery is to be found near Melnik.<BR>Sightseeing excursions to this unforgettable area can also be arranged.

Bansko - At the foot of the Pirin Mountains

The resort is renowned for its excellent snowfall record as well as an exceptionally long ski season which starts in December and can continue right through to April. A modern gondola lift runs from the town to the main winter resort with a floodlit ski road for the return. 70km of ski runs are served by more than 160 snow cannon to ensure snow coverage. 25 km of modern lifts give access to slopes as high as 2560m down to 1000m at the bottom of the ski road at the gondola base station. A ski school is available for newcomers or those wishing to brush up on their skills. For the more adventurous there is the black Tomba Run and a Fun Park with Half-Pipe. For relaxation there are a number of cozy restaurants and ski bars in which to while away the time.<BR>The town of Bansko is a unique blend of old traditions and modern style. The town centre is a listed World Heritage Site with its cobbled streets and stone-built houses. Surrounding the heart of this old town is the shopping centre with clubs, bars, restaurants and the Bulgarian taverns (Mehanas). Then beyond the centre and residential areas is the new town of modern apartment blocks and hotel complexes. Bansko is famous for its friendliness and hospitality. Whether you seek pulsating night-life into the early hours and beyond, or a quiet meal for two and a bottle of fine wine - this is the place for you.<BR>Outside of the ski season, Bansko takes on a quieter feel as the town plays host to various cultural festivals and events. Bulgarians themselves value the town for its unique history and culture. But for the active and adventurous there is plenty to do as well.<BR>Marked hiking trails can provide days of exploration in the mountains or gentle times walking through the trees on the slopes of the foothills. There are almost 200km of mountain bike trails with GPS compatible maps available in the town.<BR>River rafting is available on the rivers Struma and Mesta. The Struma offers an exciting descent through the Kresna Gorge to the sunny town of Sandanski. The Mesta, on the other hand, is a calmer and quieter passage through picturesque surroundings.<BR>Horseriding and mountaineering are just two other activities available for you to enjoy during your stay at Bordo Apartment.<BR>Summer activities can be arranged for you.

The Apartment - Conveniently located.

This privately owned, cosy, one bedroom apartment is to be found in the town of Bansko, at the foot of the renowned Pirin Mountains. Conveniently located mid-way between the historic old quarter and the modern resort area, most attractions and amenities are easily within walking distance. Night life is very accessable, but not too close to interfere when you want a quiet evening in. A mini-mart convenience store is close by, handy for essentials.<BR>The building is newly-completed, comprised of a total of twenty five apartments. The immediate area is a mix of residential and tourist accommodation, as is the building itself. Bansko is a thriving town and staying at Bordo will make you feel a part of it.<BR>Situated on the first floor, the apartment has a main room comprising lounge, kitchen and dining areas. A double bedroom, shower room with W/C and wash basin, also entrance hallway with mirror, hooks and overhead shelving. An east-facing balcony with furniture catches the morning sun.<BR>The lounge area is furnished with a double sofa-bed, coffee table and cable television with DVD player. A full size window lets in the morning sun and the glazed door opens onto a balcony overlooking the street, with views to the mountain slopes.<BR>The dining area enjoys a good size table that takes four diners comfortably. A second large window ensures this apartment has a light and airy feel. The wooden chalet-style dresser and shelving add character to the room. A welcome pack is provided.<BR>A compact kitchen area provides all the facilities including, electric hob, fitted fridge, microwave, kettle and sink. All cutlery, crockery and utensils are provided.<BR>The bedroom has a large comfortable double bed with room for storage underneath. A sizeable wardrobe provides more storage, for clothing. The wall mounted dresser with mirror is set at the foot of the bed. All bed linen is provided.<BR>The shower room and W/C is accessed from the entrance hall.<BR>Water and room heating is electric and all electricity is included.<BR>All flooring is tiled, except the bedroom which has laminate flooring.<BR>There is a designated storage room in the basement where skis, mountain bikes or other equipment can be secured. A space is included in the basement garage, room for a small to medium size car. A sauna is available, also in the basement area.
